Job Description
Position Title:
Living Skills Instructor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The primary
responsibility of the Living Skills Instructor is to instruct residents in acquiring basic
living skills, providing a safe living environment, and to assist residents
in accomplishing their personal life goals as established in their ISP
(Individual Service Plan) and IISP (Individual Instruction Support Plan).
This position reports to the
appropriate Residential Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES / EXPECTATIONS
1.
General Responsibilities
The Living Skills Instructor will:
- Maintain a safe
and healthy living environment for residents.
- Report unmet
resident needs to the Supervisor immediately.
- Maintain clear,
complete and accurate records according to established procedures.
- Abide by all
aspects of EFI’s Code of Ethics.
2.
Expectations
The Living Skills Instructor will:
- Assure that
residents have an opportunity to work toward their IISP goals.
- Provide
instruction, support, and assistance in the areas of health, personal
hygiene, grooming, appropriate apparel, meal planning, meal preparation,
house cleaning, shopping, money management, personal safety, and
emergency procedures.
- Instruct and
support residents in problem solving, conflict resolution and
communication skills.
- Monitor
medications to include: accuracy of prescriptions, drug inventory, and
observation of administration of drugs. Complete all forms as needed.
- Support and
instruct residents to use community resources and to identify and take
part in leisure time activities.
- Provide
information and suggestions for resident ISP and Resident Information
Sheets.
- Provide other
instruction, support or direction as defined in IISPs or as directed by
their supervisor.
- Keep their
supervisor informed of resident needs, significant changes, facility
issues, staffing needs, etc.
- Attend Nurse
Delegation training and perform Nurse Delegated tasks when needed.
- Enter pertinent
information in the daily log each shift.
- Keep current with
resident and staff needs by reading established communication methods,
i.e. communication books, daily summaries, calendars, etc...
- Complete Incident Reports
for any unusual or significant incidents and contact proper agencies when
required. (AASA, Complaint Resolution Unit, the sheriff’s office etc.)
- Report vehicle,
equipment and building repair requests to their supervisor.
- When working
in a supported living home that requires 24/7 care, Living Skills Instructors are paid
for breaks/lunch and or dinner time. Due to the nature of our business
caring for clients on a 24/7 basis. Staff may take a “break” or “mini
break”. A mini break may be whenever there is a few minutes during a work
shift. Living Skills Instructors must be in the immediate vicinity of the clients in
their care at all times.

Perform all other duties as assigned by their supervisor, director
and/or the Chief Executive Officer.
CONDITIONS OF
EMPLOYMENT:

Must be 21 years of age or
older and be eligible to qualify for and maintain qualification for EFI
corporate vehicle insurance coverage.

Must be willing and able to
drive any corporate vehicle as needed.
·
Possess a high school diploma
or GED.
·
Share a commitment to

In accordance with DDD policy
directive 128: Shall not have been convicted of crimes against a person in
the past seven years. Shall not have been convicted of child abuse or any
crime involving physical harm to another person, or shall not be a
perpetrator of substantiated child abuse.

Complete all personnel
training requirements within the allotted time.
·
Attend all meetings and
additional training as required.
·
These responsibilities,
expectations, and conditions of employment are specific but may be modified
to meet changing responsibilities and expectations at the discretion of the
CEO.
